DHA City Karachi (DCK) is the largest and most advanced project of Pakistan setting a benchmark for the future cities in the country and abroad. The prime aim of DHA is to plan and build an ideal city where standards and quality of life will be raised. This promising project of DHA ensures exemplary, complacent and contemporary lifestyles to the citizens which none other has offered before in Pakistan.
THE DCK project has been successfully completed within the tenure of 12 months through an exceptional and unprecedented master planning undertaken by several national and international planning experts. The goal has been achieved by using the best technology, modern equipments and techniques of latest international standards and GIS technology. The successful execution of this project will bring DCK and Pakistan on the world map of sustainable cities development.
ENVISIONING THE VISION
People turn cities into living organisms and to flourish, these organisms require a healthy balance, which is best expressed in one word: sustainability.
Sustainability rests on four key pillars: environment, competitiveness, quality of life and good governance as an overarching principle. The key challenge is to render these principles into cost-efficient and feasible solutions. Embracing the principles of sustainability, DHA City Karachi (DCK) is focusing on urban development that minimizes the impact on the environment and improves the quality of life of the community without compromising the needs of future generations. DCK’s vision is to provide practical sustainable living solutions and to inspire people to lead healthy lifestyles.
DCK is proud to announce that their vision has now been envisioned – a great achievement for Pakistan as a whole. DCK received a prestigious International Certification on June 19, 2014 in Washington D.C., USA at Hotel Marriott at Metro Center in the field of Sustainable Planning of Cities. The certificate was duly presented for DCK being the first planned sustainable city of Pakistan on EnvisionTM system. It was presented to Brigadier (R) Muhammad Rafique (PD DCK), Engineer Inam Ahmed Osmani (Chairman OCL), Professor Spiro Pollalis (Harvard University) and Engineer Arif Osmani (Team Leader of consultants).
EnvisionTM, founded by American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), American Public
Works Association (APWA) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), is a sustainable infrastructure rating system developed by the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) in Washington DC, USA and the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure at Harvard University, USA. It is a not-for-profit organization structured to develop and maintain a sustainability rating system for civil infrastructure all over the world. At the ceremony, Mr. William Berterra, the Chief Executive of Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure greatly appreciated the leadership role taken by DHA Karachi in Pakistan on sustainable planning of cities.
He iterated that adopting a sustainable infrastructure on EnvisionTM system at a city scale has been done for the first time and greatly appreciated the Pakistani engineers and planners for achieving this colossal goal within the time span of 12 months. According to him, DCK has now become a sustainability benchmark, which will be followed for the development of new cities all around the world. It is indeed a proud moment for Pakistan and all the Pakistanis. The award ceremony will be conducted in Karachi in August, in which, Mr. William Berterra, the Chief Executive of Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure, will present the sustainability awards to respective officials of DCK.
